Digital Citizenship

We cannot expect students to make the transition to online without preparing them for the online world. Take some time to discuss digital citizenship with your child and your students. Teach them how to interact with others online. We recommend using lessons from Common Sense Media . You will find a lesson for each grade in the following areas:

  • Media Balance and Well Being

  • Privacy and Security

  • Digital Footprint and Identy

  • Relationships and Communication

  • Cyberbullying, Digital Drama and Hate Speech

FAQs

Which web browser is recommended for use with online applications?

In general, the Google Chrome web browser will work best for most applications, especially Google applications like Classroom, Drive, etc. However, there are many browsers like Brave, Vivaldi, and the newest version of Edge that are based on the same code (Chromium) as Chrome, and these may work well, too ... but if you're having issues accessing sites, try using them in Chrome to see if the issue may be related to your browser.

Many users choose to have extensions installed in their web browser, and this may also introduce issues with certain applications. If you are experiencing issues with web-based applications, we recommend disabling extensions and trying the applications again. If that resolves your issue, then the issue was likely caused by one of those extensions.

What if I share Chrome with other users in my household?

In this case, we recommend setting up separate Chrome profiles for each user (this is also helpful if you have children who need to use their school Google account on the same computer as their personal Google account). This makes it possible for each user to have separate bookmarks, extensions, etc., and keep everyone's data separate. These instructions can help you set up Chrome profiles for each user (other web browsers may have similar abilities, too).
